Biometrics Appointment
A short visit to a USCIS center where they take your fingerprints, photo, and signature for background checks.
A biometrics appointment is a quick visit to a USCIS Application Support Center where staff take your fingerprints, photo, and signature. USCIS uses them to run background and security checks.
For many forms like N-400, I-485, and I-765, you get a biometrics notice within the first month or two after filing. Sometimes USCIS reuses biometrics from a recent filing and waives the appointment.
It is an early step, so completing it is a normal sign your case is moving. Bring the appointment notice and a valid photo ID.
