Consular Processing
Getting an immigrant visa at a US embassy or consulate abroad, then entering as a permanent resident.
Consular processing is the path for someone outside the US. After USCIS approves the petition, the case moves to the State Department, you attend an interview at a US embassy or consulate, and you enter the US as a permanent resident.
It has its own timeline on top of the USCIS petition step, handled through the National Visa Center and the consulate, so the USCIS processing tool only covers the first part.
The main alternative is adjustment of status for people already inside the US. Which one fits depends on where you live and your category.
