Request for Evidence (RFE)
A USCIS letter asking for more documents before it can decide your case. Responding on time is critical.
An RFE is a letter where USCIS says it needs more evidence before deciding your case. It is not a denial. It is a chance to fill a gap, like a missing document, an unclear translation, or proof of a relationship.
The letter gives a deadline, often around 87 days, and lists exactly what to send. Missing the deadline can lead to a denial, so respond fully and on time.
An RFE pauses your processing clock while you gather documents, which is one reason a case can take longer than the posted time. Read the request carefully and send everything it asks for in one response.
